Myself and Derek have purchased a Quantum 912 and have hangered it at Swansea for a month at great expense. She is a beauty. I must say that I was chuffed with the Mercury 582, but having flown this baby, what a difference in machines. For me, one massive difference is the room inside the pod when 2 up, it makes all the difference to that long flight. The fact that I now have electric start, I feel really posh. One of the reasons for hangering at Swansea is because our strip isnt the longest in the world, and now there is a pipeline running at the end with a massive tump of earth, so we really want to get used to landing in short fields but practicing on the runway first if you see what I mean. I am not one of those pilots who thinks he can fly anything and land anywhere. Yes its costing a lot to hanger it, but I value my health and the plane a little more at the moment. Anyone got any tips on short field landings. I come in now at about 52mph and I can stop within two white lines on the runway, but thats approaching farily flat and with some power, and basically flying it onto the ground. ANY tips greatly appreciated. Anyone tried that sun tan cream for the wing, is it any good and how much does it cost to coat the wing. I am sure captain sims will advise me there. Anyone going to the Wing Farm fly in on Saturday 11th August. Dai |

You are gone posh Dai. Very sensible idea, getting your head around it at Swansea first. ive done a few hundred hours on the old QTM 912 and it is a fantastic design, I think Pegasus got it right with the Q2 wing, its very forgiving with no real nasties, Its still potentially slow enough to land in smaller microlight fields. It is also well capable in horrible conditions, I landed it once in Kemble (from the back seat) in 35 Kt gusty winds. I think I would read the manual there's alot of good information there about flying it, put there by the guys who designed it. 55 is nice approach speed.(remember it stalls at higher speeds than your alpha wing) As for the 303 Ive used it and in the states Ive seen lots of good feedback, but there are one or two people in the UK who say its pointless. I think there is still more of an argument for using it than not, so Im still selling it.
Oh no more messing with two strokes !!
PS Could you text me Martyn Richardsons number
