Welsh TV (S4C) visit
Powered Adventures Flying School
Y - Garej is a programme for
Welsh Television, its a kind of a Gadget show,
every week one of the presenters takes on
a surprise challenge, this time Hannah was
challenged to fly a microlight to the Pembrokeshire
Coast.
After a couple of lessons with Martin Sims
our flying Instructor she completed the challenge.
"She could make a good pilot" commented
Martin
Microlight under the Severn Bridge
This video was anonymously sent to us at Powered
Adventure.
The maker tells us in a note attached with it,
that during a very heavy beer session in 1989,
they had decided that on Sunday morning they
would fly under the Wye Bridge, a suspension
Bridge joining the main Severn Bridge. As they
approached the Bridge The Wye Bridge looked
very small, so they decided to duck under the
main bridge. Whist flying level with the Bridge
the passenger managed to wave to some kids on
a bus travelling over the Bridge.
You will notice when the reach dry land at Chepstow
the passengers hand waves like mad, in relief,
because an engine failure (of their 2 stroke
engine) into the fast moving tidal waters of
the Severn in January would have been disastrous.
Powered Adventure does NOT condone this kind
of flying and recommends that pilots adhere
strictly to UK Air Law
Paragliding Merthyr Hang
Gliding Site at Night
Oct 1st 1994 a couple of members of the Black
Sheep Squadron where having a quite drink in
the Whistle Inn Blaenavon, someone mentioned
it was flyable a nice westerly straight on Merthyr.
We got some torches and a radio, the chicks
went to the bottom landing field with a torch.
Martin Sims (proprietor Powered Adventure),
Neil Langdon and Phil New Zealand tied torches
to their ankles.
We set up headlights on the take off to allow
us to rig, the take off was just in and out
of cloud base and small broken cloud.
With a small speck of light in the distance
the flights were completed safely. Here is a
snapshot of the flight...
